Heads Up! Fake Apple Email!!
This morning I got an official looking email that appeared to be from Apple.
When I woke up, it was on my iPhone and this is what is looked like:
It reporting that someone had signed in using my ID from an iPhone 6s as you can see in the email.
I never had a 6s. Did someone hack my Apple account?
However, I had once given a phone in to Apple under a warranty replacement and subsequently had my account compromised.
I clicked the link and checked the FROM address in the email warning.
It was not from Apple.
The first clue: it is NOT from an Apple.com domain. It’s from “decnunet.com”. I’m pretty sure that Apple has NOT hired them to handle accounts.
Most folks might pass that key clue up and click into the email link to reset the password.
Here’s the fake URL:
I clicked into it to investigate what the landing page looked like.
Clicking the link it took me to an official Apple look-a-like page.
It was a perfect duplicate of the real login page.
I put a fake email in with a fake password – notice that they have programmed it to automatically get someone to click ANOTHER link. You can see that in the graphic above the real Apple login page.
To truly fool the victim, that next link takes you to the REAL Apple login site.
If you have done this, please immediately change your password for your Apple account at this link
https://appleid.apple.com/#!&page=signin
Here is the REAL Apple URL for signing in:
Notice how it has APPLE.COM in the URL and then the “/”?
The fake one had “appleid.apple.com.updateexcuwebapps.info” and the domain is “updateexcuwebapps.info”, not APPLE.COM.
Many are fooled because at first glance they see the apple.com buried in the URL and it’s easy to make this mistake.
