About a year ago, a client site was being setup live and we had to switch to a new server, and with his business email being mission critical, we needed to ensure that we did not lose any emails while the servers were migrated to the new host.
Most clients of mine had been using the email that comes free with the domain. While this practice has been used for years, there are a few problems with this system.
If the server goes down (shared servers do get bonked every so often) or another business on the shared email system gets hacked and starts sendin out spam and virus messages, that address will get blocked and your business and personal emails will not get through. It can take a few days up to weeks, to get off of the black-list for messages on the internet.
The benefits are awesome as you can use whatever domains you want, add employees and sub-accounts and they have a much better spam-protection system for incoming messages than any free web-host account.
